Beauty and The Beast, the musical, premiered on Broadway way back in 1994. There's no reason to sugarcoat this, it was overshadowed because of the success of the Lion King. Over the years, there have been different attempts to take the story back into the mainstream theater scene. After an amazing run in London's West End, and a long tour of Australia, this revival is going on a US tour. One of the shows will luckily be in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Saturday 9th November 2024.
In other iterations of the show, the set design and the colors of the costumes were both rather dark. This brought a lot of attention on The Beast character. This new version is going in a completely different direction. The emphasis is more on Belle, as it should've always been. This time around, the audience is welcomed by beautifully designed sets and bright costumes that light up the stage. When you pair that with the traditional soundtrack, you begin to see why both the British and Australian theater goers took a liking to this revival. Forgive the spoilers, but the bright entrance that Belle's character and the different members of her French village have, provide the ideal contrast to The Beast's world. What happened in both the UK and Australia was that crowds were incredibly engaged by this point in the play. There's no reason why things will be different this Saturday at Byham Theater and the entire US tour for that matter. Gaston's introduction and musical number tend to be fan favorites. It's really Belle who makes this story go though, and for this US Tour they've hired a great actress for the role. At the end of the night, you'll be singing and dancing as you waltz out of Byham Theater.
At these theater shows, it's essential to have good seats. They are going to determine the view that you have of what's taking place on stage.
