Beauty and The Beast, the musical, started out on Broadway back in 1994. There's no reason to lie about this, it was forgotten because of the success of the Lion King. Over the years, there have been multiple attempts to take the story back into the mainstream theater scene. After an amazing run in London's West End, and an extensive tour of Australia, this new version is currently on a US tour. One of the stops will luckily be in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Thursday 7th November 2024.
In previous iterations of the show, the backgrounds and the colors of the costumes were both kind of dark. This put a lot of attention on The Beast character. This new version is going in a completely different direction. The focus is more on Belle, as it should've always been. This time around, the audience is greeted with thoughtfully designed sets and bright costumes that light up the stage. When you pair that with the uplifting soundtrack, you begin to see why both the British and Australian audiences took a liking to this revival. Forgive the spoilers, but the magnificent entrance that Belle's character and the different members of her French village make, provide the perfect contrast to The Beast's world. What happened in both the UK and Australia was that crowds were super engaged by this point in the show. Things likely won't be any different this Thursday at Byham Theater and the entire US tour for that matter. Gaston's introduction and musical number tend to be loved by fans. It's truly Belle that the story revolves around though, and for this US Tour they've hired a great actress for the role. At the end of the night, you'll be singing and dancing as you waltz out of Byham Theater.
